My Penang (Malaysia) Trip Review

I will try to provide as much useful information for you all for my Penang holiday trip.

Penang Trip from 6 nov – 8 nov 2018

Flight ticket price per person : $87.60 sgd

I am taking Jetstar Budget air

(My Friend was saying this is consider cheaper than normal rate , she say normal rate is around $100-$200)

Time Duration from Singapore to Penang : 1 hr 25 mins

You will arrive at The Penang International Airport.

If you decide to get SIM card or data card you will see those kiosk on the way to immigration counter .

Don’t worry if u missed this, you will see these kiosk in the area where you book for cab services.

It is at the Mezzanine level.

The hotel I stayed in Penang is Armenian Street Hotel , this is a 3 stars hotel but it is clean and the room are big.

Most important is the price is reasonable.. I booked 2 rooms since 4 people are going . I give my dad the room with queen size beds

Superior double bed (1 queen Size bed) : $83 sgd for 2 nights

Superior Family room ( 1 queen size and 1 single bed) : $118.61 sgd for 2 nights

We took a cab from airport to Armenian Street Hotel . Cab fare is $44.70 RM

It is much cheaper to use Grab in Penang, but it will be better if you use a local number in case the Grab driver can’t find you . Otherwise , you have to make sure that you pick a commonly pick up spot which you know the cab driver will know.

Our first day we found a nice food stall selling wanton mee .. it is walking distance from our hotel . Recommended by a cab driver .

HONG KEE WAN THUN MEE

This is good and delicious . This is our dinner for the first day

We went to the nearby shopping mall . There are 3 shopping mall around my hotel around 15-20 mins walk . The roads are Super difficult to cross . Just take a Grab will do .

Not much to do on the first day since we reached airport at 4.30 pm

Pls see the below for places I will not recommend.

1) don’t bothered to eat this unless u are Super hungry. We were looking for another dim sum stall , can’t find . So we settle for this . Ok only .

2) Gurney Drive Hawker Centre . This is really really overhyped, overrated. I got nothing else to say except disappointed . Singapore Bedok 85 market is way better than this . Even my last day local private driver told me locals don’t even go there to eat . Out of 6 dishes I ordered . Only the Duck Egg Char kway teow is good.

This is like you eat street food at our Orchard area .

Therefore, my day 2 is filled with disappointment on food . I visited the Asia largest temple (Kek Lok Si temple)

As I am bringing 3 elderly with me average age 70 . I don’t really want them to walk too much . Most of the time we use Grab (Rate ranging from $5 rm to $12 rm .

Day 3 lunch we ate at our hotel . The food there is good .

We visited the Pinang Peranakan Museum. Per person is $20 rm . It is really worth the visit . We spend hours in here .

We are lucky that we found a very good Grab driver for the rest of the day . I forgot his actual rate is like $30 – $40 rm for an hr . We hired him around 4 hrs . Including sending us to airport . He is a local , he can recommend good places to eat and visit.

If you need his contact can message your email below I will send you his contact.

For the rest of day 3 , he drove us around . We went to have some tea , Chew Jetty , visit the local product shop and have our dinner at a famous “restaurant” called ”大树下” (Translate “Under the Big Tree) . Yummy 😋

I don’t have the address for this .

Below is the address for the Local product shop . It is a big shop , you can find a lot of products from Tambun Biscuits to Citronella oil. Price quite reasonable to me. If you ask me about the Tambun biscuits I can say ok only .

This marked the end of our Penang Trip . My first time coming to Penang . Overall , I think the food is good , but you have to know where to go. Compare to Johor Bahru , I feel that JB pricing are much higher . But you be surprise this town is so developed that the housing is like Singapore. Their Condominium at Gurney area is like Orchard area. It is much developed than JB . This is just my point of view .

I will definitely visit there again 😉

Thank you for reading my review . Hope I do provide some useful information 😉
